Our Story So Far

FOPE’s History

Friends of Brimmington Park started in November 2005 and our first event, planting spring bulbs in our Park, took place in the same month, followed by a tree dressing in support of National Tree Week. We formally opened of the Children’s Play area at the beginning of December 2008.

The first Brimmington Mid-summer Festival took place in 2006 as a celebration of the warmth and vibrancy of our community and the revival of our local park. The event included performances by local musicians, steel bands, choirs and dance groups. There was a children’s fancy dress parade and a balloon race, activities for children and stalls selling food, plants, bric-a-brac, and jewellery. The Festival gets bigger every year and we are currently planning the 2017 event.

Friends of Peckham East was born out of Friends of Brimmington Park.  We established the new name in 2015, to recognise residents’ wish to be inclusive and welcoming to the whole area, not just the park.

FOPE focuses on the aims summarised below:

  • Create a greener, cleaner, safer environment in Peckham East
  • Conserve and develop Brimmington Park
  • Work alongside services, facilities, or things going on in the area to make sure the voice of the local community is heard
  • Connect local people, celebrate diversity and build community

We can supply our constitution in PDF format on request.

Get Involved?

We’re looking for suggestions of anything we could be involved in next. It could be an ongoing project that needs support; an event or activity we could run or attend; or another local group we could link up with. It could be a local issue that needs to be addressed; or some funding we could apply for…. anything! Email us at editor@fope.org.uk
